The Leathers Building
Athens, Georgia Commercial Real Estate
This factory warehouse, The Leathers Building, was built by the L.M. Leathers family*, in the 1920’s, is home to a lively mixed-use center. The adaptive re-use of the former factory warehouse encompasses commercial real estate offices for Real Estate Brokers (including Chastain, Jenkins & Leathers), Architects, Land Planners, among others. There is thriving community of health professionals, including, a naturopathic physician, a yoga center, and Pilates studio. The Leathers Building is also home to gourmet wine shop and artist’s studios. The exposed brick walls, 22-foot high ceilings with steel bow truss system and original skylights are just a few of the unique architectural features that make the spaces so inviting.
Each condo, retail, and restaurant space within the building is uniquely shaped with plenty of natural light and high multi-angled ceilings. The 23 office condominiums range in size from approximately 300 to 1,100 square feet. All are equipped with expansive aluminum storefront windows, architectural lighting, and private central cooling and heating. The larger office condominiums also feature a private ½ bath and oversized skylights. On the west side of the building, the smaller units have shared access to a common break room and a centrally located conference room. Three retail suites on the building’s west side feature expansive aluminum storefront windows, architectural lighting, independently controlled heating and cooling, and ½ bath each.
*The Leather’s family is credited with inventing the machine that makes Moon Pies, Peanut Butter Crackers and the first trouser guard, “the thin little strip w/the bulldog grip.”
